Insomnious (2023)
For Wind Ensemble. Insomnious is personal. In January 2022, I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a condition in which a person will stop breathing during sleep. This condition is manageable with treatment but is deadly. I could die in my sleep any night if I do not sleep with medical equipment. I received a diagnosis that I will have to sleep with this equipment for the rest of my life. This was alarming news and was the culprit of many sleepless nights and anxiety. This piece is a musical representation of the feelings associated with the condition and learning not to be afraid of death. The motive of this work is derived from the Christian hymn The Soul of Man Never Dies. This work was the Thesis Submission for the completion of the Master of Music Degree in Music Composition at Ohio University.
